OK (when it worked)...... August 30, 2010 oakono I bought this camera from Best Buy in May, 2009. This July, 2010, the camera has been deemed an expensive paper weight. After approx. 1 year of occasional use, the LCD display failed. I mean it just up and quit working. The camera would turn on and record normally, but that's completely useless as you have no way of knowing what you're recording and no way of adjusting settings. So, I arranged with the Canon support people to send it in to their offices to have the problem checked out. Their findings (whatever they were) were going to cost me $187.00 to fix. Now, I know this camera was out of warranty by only 2-3 months, but dropping $200.00 on a $400.00 camera was hard to swallow so I refused the repair. It's also irritating to know that to diagnose the problem, they must have got it working, and then when I refused the repair, they broke it again and sent it back. I understand warranties and that the line has to be drawn somewhere, but as a company, I'd be embarrassed that a main component of one of my products quit after only one year. The camera was never very easy to use, picture quality was so-so, and dealing with those .MOD files was horrifying. I subsequntly purchased a brand that I was strongly advised to purchase in the first place - Panasonic.
My Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder August 10, 2010 Steve I wanted a quality camcorder at an affordable price as I was preparing for a trip to Africa. I visited the Consumers Report website for recommendation. Canon FS200 Flash Memory camcorder was recommended very high within my price range. I wasn't disappointed at this baby's performance at all. The pic is sharp an bright. The camcorder is so small, it fits into my pant pocket very easily.
NO VIDEOS FOR 1.5 GHZ PC G4 MACS July 21, 2010 rwmartel 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the FS200 flash memory camcorder, because it was not expensive plus making all kinds of promises( I did not need a video maker at the moment but I had enough money to make a purchase). I have other Canon cameras and they have worked very well so I ddid not think I would have any problems with the FAS200. Well I did learn something "don't judge a book by its coverup." I have three MAC computers and one PC (I got this because I wanted a Golf program that ran only on PCs) So the FS200 took fine photo's- good enough for my purposes. When I tried it on videos, it went through the procedures of capturing the image and worked well on the playback on the camcorder. When I went on to make videos I got a dialog box that said that I could not use iMovie because quickTime could not parse the images. I called the customer service line and a techy worked with me for 1 hour 1/2 and said that i could do this on a PC. I called another Canon Number and the agent was rather smug and said that I had a 1.5 GHZ power PC G4 OSX 10.4.11 and had to upgrade to make it work. If I had this information when I was ordering the FS200 I would not have bought it. So much for Canon's customer service program it works only after you pay up.

Useless June 16, 2010 S. Iammarino (cambridge, ma United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This camera is Useless. I'm not sure where to begin with the six month odyssey I have been through with this THING.
First of all it not even mine. I bought it for my son for Christmas.
Seems to work great, as far as shooting and all goes. Problem is can't get the video off it on to any of our computers. My son has my old G4. What the heck, doesn't work on that. Its a bit disappointing, but I get it. Its an old computer.
So I figure we can download his videos onto my computer, another mac but with dual core intel Processor, 2.66 and 4GB of ram... Not So. cause I had Tiger OS 10.4- according to Canon Tech Support - My computer wouldn't recognize the camera. Live and learn.
A few months pass, My son's used the camera for stills which download just fine. But it is a Video Camera. It'd be nice if he could use it as such. So I called tech support again just to make sure I understood just what we had to do. They said all I had to do was update iMovie HD to iMovie 08 OR 09- That of course meant updating my OS to at least Leopard.
Snow Leopard was on sale, so I got that. Not that I needed a new OS but if it could get the kids camera up and runnin, why not. A new OS is always fun. 129 bucks later, we are finally ready to check out what this baby can do.
Nothing. It does nothing. I have been back and forth with Canon Tech support for days, and hours, done everything they have suggested. Initialize this, Download that, Copy this here, download there. Disconnect everything from your computer. Re boot.
I know I might sound like I am whining. But I have several other camera's, from still (nikon D200) to video (Sony HD) ,even a flip camera or two. None of these camera's have any problem communicating with this or any other computer in this house, regardless of their OS.
After doing everything that tech support asked over the course of a week, I asked them to either replace the camera or give me a refund cause obviously nothing we were doing was going to work.
And here is my real complaint. It's at this point that I felt I was sold a lemon by a shifty used car salesman. They refused to accept that there might be something wrong with their product and we went through a painful rebuke of all my equipment and software, which I had to refute step by step and piece by piece. Gig by Gig. One tech guy even suggested I get a PC.
I have everything required to for this thing to work- It just ain't workin'. This camera is a dud- wether they are all like this or it just this one- I don't know. This camera is not recognized By iMovie 09 and painfully slow to download even just to the desk top.
Whatever this camera is, if you can't get the videos on to your computer, its useless.
